Forum on Security established, Kosovo
As part of Saferworld’s SafePlace project in Kosovo, supported financially by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saferworld supported our main partner in Kosovo, the Forum for Civic Initiatives (FIQ) and Kosovo Center for Security Studies (QKSS), to hold two planning workshops on the establishment of a Forum on Security.

Supporting the development of Kosovo’s National Community Safety Strategy and Action Plan

Since 2005, Saferworld and local partner NGOs have been implementing community safety approaches in ten locations in Kosovo, and linking community level experiences with national level policy and decision making. We developed relationships and built the capacity of communities and local NGOs regarding community safety, and facilitated meetings to improve information exchange and coordination between local, municipal, national and international community safety actors.

Supporting the Human Rights Review Panel for EULEX in their outreach campaign, Kosovo
On 10 June Saferworld was invited to participate in a meeting of the Human Rights Review Panel (HRRP) with civil society organisations at which the HRRP briefed the participants on its mandate and planned outreach campaign.

Civil society seminar on EULEX cooperation, Kosovo
On 27 April 2010, Saferworld organised a seminar in Pristina on co-operation between civil society and the European Union rule of law mission (EULEX) in Kosovo. Since 2007, Saferworld and the Forum for Civic Initiatives, our partner in Kosovo, have been engaging with European Union mission in Kosovo to promote consultation with civil society organisations and communities so that the mission is responsive to community security needs and concerns.

Promoting community safety, Kosovo and Serbia

In March 2010, Saferworld travelled to Belgrade to meet with representatives from the government, civil society, NGOs and researchers in order to get a better understanding of the Serbian perspective on regional community safety and security as well as small arms and light weapons (SALW) control issues. Saferworld also made a scoping trip to Northern Kosovo to get a clearer picture of the general local context, safety and security perceptions, power dynamics, interests and key actors that will inform possible future programming options in that area.
