Security Information Centre opens in Gracanice, Kosovo

April 2009 - As part of the SafePlace project, Saferworld and the Forum for Civic Initiatives (FIQ) have provided support for Communication for Social Development (CSD) a non-governmental organisation (NGO) from Gracanice to create a Security Information Centre. CSD is one of the eight NGOs who were involved in Saferworld’s conflict analyses of 2007 and gave support in researching the report ‘Through the cross hairs – a survey of changing attitudes towards small arms in Kosovo’. As a follow-up to the conflict analysis CSD conducted a conflict mapping workshop in Gracanice. Based on the findings, CSD conducted a survey in Gracanice which identified the need for better communication between the citizens and institutions. CSD have established the new Security Information Centre with the aim of establishing sustainable two-way communication channels between the two groups. It is hoped this dialogue will contribute to a more secure community in Gracanice.
