Conference, 26 February 2010, Prishtine

As part of efforts to promote community security, Saferworld organised a conference in Pristina, Kosovo, to discuss the legal and institutional framework for developing an appropriate methodology. The event was an opportunity for over 60 participants working on community security in Kosovo to exchange information on the institutional and legal framework, and its linkages with initiatives taking place at community, municipal and central government levels. Participants include representatives from Kosovo’s municipal and central government institutions, Mr. Zenun Pajaziti, Minister of Internal Affairs, H.E. Hans-Dieter Steinbach, the German Ambassador in Kosovo, UNDP, EULEX and other international organisations, local NGOs, community representatives and the media. Representatives from the municipalities shared their experiences of best practices and the challenges facing community safety within the existing institutional and legal frameworks. Discussion then focused on how to develop partnerships to scale up community security initiatives in order create a safer environment for all in Kosovo. Saferworld will distribute a report of the recommendations from the conference to be taken forward by the respective institutions and organisations.
